The Guyana Government is working along with a British company, Angloco, to acquire a new set of fire trucks along with the requisite spares. This was revealed today by Guyana’s Home Affairs Minister, Robeson Benn, during his presentation to the House on Budget 2024.
Aside from the acquisition of these assets, Benn told the House that his ministry will move this year to reconstruct the Leonora, West Coast Demerara and the Diamond, East Bank Demerara fire stations. He added that the government will also be placing more fire stations across the country with improvements slated for the Bartica Fire Station.
The minister also noted that the acquisition of a fire boat is on the cards. A new crash tender was also recently purchased for Ogle Fire Station.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Fire Service has gone to each and every dorm and school building in the hinterland to install smoke alarms, place extinguishers, fire balls, sand buckets, extinguishers, and all other means to prevent issues relating to fire. They have also done reviews and practices in relation to enhancing knowledge related to fires, the minister reported.
