The Committee of Supply on Tuesday approved the 2024 budgets for all constitutional agencies, totalling $13.5 billion. This approval followed the review of the estimates of expenditure for these entities.
Key allocations include $2.2 billion for the Parliament Office, with $50.5 million earmarked for furniture, equipment, and facility upgrades. The Office of the Leader of the Opposition will receive $32.5 million, up from $28 million allocation in 2023, and reflecting a budget increase to accommodate last year’s 6.5 percent public sector salary bump.
The Audit Office of Guyana has been allocated $1.3 billion. The Public and Police Service Commissions are set to receive $202.1 million, while the Teaching Service Commission has a budget of $184.5 million. As for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), the committee approved a $3.5 billion allocation, down from $5.067 billion in 2023, attributed to the absence of elections this year.
Additional allocations include $4.7 billion for the Supreme Court of Judicature, $67.3 million for the Office of the Ombudsman, $68.7 million for the Public Service Appellate Tribunal, $238 million for the Ethnic Relations Commission, $17.5 million for the Judicial Service Commission, $185.4 million for the Rights Commissions of Guyana, and $270.9 million for the Public Procurement Commission.
