To bolster bilateral ties and enhance business relations, the Guyanese and Dominican private sectors have launched a Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce in Guyana. The launch took place at the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo today at the Marriott Hotel.
The launch comes just a month after a Guyana Chamber of Commerce was launched in the Dominican Republic to fulfill the same purpose. Speaking at the launching ceremony today was the Dominican Republic’s Ambassador to Guyana, Ernesto- Torres Pereyra, who noted that the Chamber was initiated as a move to form stronger business relations which will see significant investments from both countries.
He was keen to note that steps are already being made to see better relations between both companies which includes the introduction of direct flights, Presidential visits and Memorandas of Understanding (MoUs). Indeed, Dominican Republic based airline, Sky High Aviation, on Sunday began its services to Guyana operating three flights per week between Guyana and the Dominican Republic, and intends to eventually expand its services to daily flights.
Moreover at the Guyana Chamber of Commerce launch in January, the Ambassador noted that it is the first Chamber to be established with a bilateral presence, providing a local and family-friendly service to all its members.
“The purpose of our Chamber of Commerce is to promote key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, oil and energy. We aspire to be a catalyst for economic progress in both nations, fostering collaboration and creating opportunities for sustainable development,” he had said.
