In an effort to promote transparency and efficiency in procurement processes, the Public Procurement Commission (PPC) has joined forces with the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security to conduct a comprehensive training session on public procurement.
The Public Procurement Commission plays a pivotal role in promoting fairness, transparency, and efficiency in procurement processes within Guyana. Operating under the Constitution of Guyana, the PPC is tasked with educating suppliers, contractors, and public bodies on procurement rules and procedures.
Additionally, it conducts training seminars to enhance participants’ understanding of procurement practices, ensuring compliance with legislative frameworks and fostering accountability in public spending. Through its oversight and guidance, the PPC aims to safeguard the integrity of procurement processes, ultimately contributing to the effective utilization of public resources and the advancement of national development objectives.
The PPC said it has thus far been steadfast in its commitment to fostering awareness of procurement rules and procedures. The collaborative training session, observed yesterday was spearheaded by key personnel from the PPC’s Operations Department, including Antonio Yhan, Training Officer; Esther Osborne, Attorney-at-Law; and Prakash Sookdeo, Procurement Specialist, where they delved into crucial topics.
These topics included elucidating the role of the Public Procurement Commission, understanding the legislative framework, administrative review, debarment procedures, and an in-depth exploration of procurement processes, plans, thresholds, and tender openings.
A total of 16 participants had the privilege of immersing themselves in these vital discussions, emerging empowered with essential insights to bolster procurement systems within their respective organizations.
