Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred about 06:35 hrs this morning (Tuesday) at the intersection of Brickdam and Brummel Place, Georgetown. Dead is motorcyclist, Nigel Harvey, a 34-year-old of Lot 731 ‘C’ Field Sophia, Georgetown.
Guyana Standard understands that Harvey was struck by a minibus, BWW 693, owned and driven by Keith Texeira-Livingstone, a 70-year-old resident of Lodge Housing Scheme. Harvey was on motorcycle CL 8444.
Based reports, tragedy struck as the minibus was proceeding north along the western drive lane of Brummel Place, whilst the motorcycle was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of Brickdam (public road).
The traffic light at the intersection was not in working order at the time as both drivers failed to stop at the intersection resulting in a collision.
The motorcyclist was flung into the air and fell onto the road’s surface. He received injuries to the head and body. He was picked up by EMT personnel in an unconscious condition and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 06:55 hrs.
The body was later escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the minibus remains in custody, assisting with the investigation.
