The Alliance For Change (AFC) has officially announced its 8th Biennial Conference, scheduled to take place on June 29, 2024, in Georgetown. The event is expected to draw approximately 300 delegates, along with numerous observers, special guests, and invitees.
The AFC, in a Facebook post, said that preparations for this event, “which represents a key moment of democratic renewal for Guyana’s third major political party”, are progressing smoothly.
It noted that all regional bodies of the party have been duly informed about the upcoming Conference.
The party added that in keeping with its commitment to democratic principles and comprehensive membership involvement, Nomination Day has been set for June 12, 2024. Members are now invited to submit nominations for crucial leadership roles, including Leader, Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, and twelve members of the National Executive Committee.
The AFC says it anticipates an exciting, productive, and collaborative Conference that will shape the future trajectory of the party and bolster its ongoing efforts to drive positive change across Guyana.
The AFC joined force with the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in 2015, securing a victory over the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), which had been in power since 1992. The APNU+AFC coalition government succumbed to a historic no-confidence motion in 2018 after AFC member Charandass Persaud voted in favour of the PPP/C.
The coalition ultimately lost the protracted 2020 election, notoriously recognized as the longest electoral process in Guyana’s history, stretching over five months.
