Police in Regional Division 4’A’ are investigating a shocking incident where Melissa David, 26, allegedly set the father of her child, 32-year-old Edmond Moses, on fire following an argument over a missing $18,000.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, around 19:30 hrs at their shared residence on New Market Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown.
Authorities were alerted to the situation and responded to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s critical care unit, where Moses was being treated. During questioning, Moses revealed the sequence of events leading to his severe injuries. He stated that he discovered his wallet missing $18,000 and raised an alarm. David, who lives in a separate apartment at the same address, appeared with the wallet and threw it at him. Upon checking, Moses found the cash missing, and when he confronted David about it, she responded negatively, leading to an argument.
The confrontation escalated when David approached Moses on the veranda, doused him with a liquid substance, and set him on fire using a lighter. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were called to the scene, and Moses was rushed to the hospital. He is currently in the critical care unit with serious burn injuries to his body and right hand.
David has been taken into custody and is assisting police with their investigation.
