The Bahamas is gearing up to host the Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM) and the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF) from June 12 to 14, 2024 which will feature some of its most high-level speakers to date.
The forum is expected include Heads of State from seven CARICOM countries including President Irfaan Ali, former Prime Ministers; Ministers of Trade, Economic Development and Finance; and influential figures such as Grammy award winning actress, Viola Davis; Tennis legend, Serena Williams; Former Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve (USA), Dr. Roger W. Ferguson; and Professor of International Business and Director of the Institute for Trade and Innovation at Offenburg University, Prof. Andreas Klasen.
It was noted their presence underscores the high-level nature of the discussions that will take place, focusing on economic development and regional integration.
The event aims to build on the successes of previous forums, particularly the inaugural AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum held in Barbados in 2022 and last year’s event in Guyana. The Afrexim Bank was keen to note that these gatherings have already set the stage for meaningful collaboration between Africa and the CARICOM nations, focusing on strengthening economic bonds and creating new investment opportunities.
The agenda for ACTIF2024 includes a diverse range of topics critical to the future of Afro-Caribbean economic relations. Sessions will delve into key areas such as managing macroeconomic crises with lessons from Africa and the Caribbean and the power of sports.
Professor Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank, emphasized the strategic importance of these gatherings. In his recent remarks he said, “We are witnessing shifts in the global economic landscape and the trade strategies of major economies, making it imperative for African and Caribbean nations to unite for mutual prosperity. The Afreximbank Annual Meetings and AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum in The Bahamas will serve as a strategic platform to enhance our economic bonds.”
It was noted that the selection of The Bahamas as the host for ACTIF2024 highlights the country’s strategic importance and its growing role as a nexus for international trade and investment discussions. The Bahamas, known for its robust financial services sector and strategic location, is an ideal venue for such a significant event, providing a conducive environment for dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders.
