The Government of Guyana, through its Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI) from companies capable of conducting a comprehensive 3D Multi-Client Seismic Survey offshore. This ambitious project aims to gather high-quality seismic data to unlock further hydrocarbon exploration and development opportunities in the country’s promising offshore blocks.
The primary objective of this seismic survey is to acquire, process, and interpret top-tier 3D seismic data. This data will play a crucial role in facilitating exploration and the potential development of hydrocarbon resources. Additionally, the information gathered will be vital during future bidding and licensing rounds, ensuring that high-quality seismic data is available for effective evaluation by interested parties. In fact these surveys were previously used in the 2022 Licensing Round where a total of 14 oil blocks were up for grabs – 11 in shallow water and three in deep water.
Seismic surveys are a considered a cornerstone of modern hydrocarbon exploration. They involve the use of seismic waves to create detailed images of the subsurface, which help geologists and engineers identify potential oil and gas reserves. The 3D aspect of these surveys provides a more comprehensive view compared to traditional 2D surveys, allowing for better decision-making and risk assessment.
In the context of Guyana, a nation that has rapidly emerged as a significant player in the global oil industry, acquiring accurate and detailed seismic data is paramount. It aids in understanding the complex geology of offshore blocks and enhances the likelihood of successful exploration and development.
Since the discovery of substantial oil reserves in the Stabroek Block by ExxonMobil in 2015, the country’s offshore oil fields are now among the most significant global discoveries in recent years, with billions of barrels of recoverable oil.
The MNR has set stringent criteria to ensure that only experienced and reputable firms undertake this significant project. Interested firms must be internationally recognized and should have successfully completed at least three similar assignments or contracts within the last twelve years.
Firms interested in this opportunity are invited to submit their expressions of interest by demonstrating their qualifications and relevant experience. Submissions should include detailed descriptions of similar assignments, experience in comparable conditions, and the availability of skilled staff and appropriate equipment.
Further information, including the detailed scope of services, can be obtained by contacting the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Natural Resources via email at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected] “”) or visiting the ministry at 96 Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown, Guyana.
All expressions of interest must be submitted by 9:00 AM on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Submissions should be directed to the Chairman of the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board at the Ministry of Finance, Main & Urquhart Streets, Georgetown, Guyana. Firms may also attend the proposal opening in person or request a video link from npta.procurement@finance.
