It has been more than 24 hours since the close of poll at the concluded People’s National Congress Reform’s (PNCR) Congress. While the official results are yet to be declared in its entirety, persons close to the election are worried.
Results for the principle offices are out but still, “we are in the dark about the 15 persons to make up the new Central Executive Committee (CEC)”
At least three politicians who contested for a spot in the party’s CEC told Guyana Standard that “something is amiss.”
One contestant said, “we heard that Norton’s entire slate was elected. And that word elected is in uplifted commas if you know what I mean.”
Another long standing politician said that the signs that something “fishy” was abound were there very early on and continued during the congress. “For instance, two persons’ names were incorrectly spelt on the ballots. These persons were Christopher Jones and Vinceroy Jordan.”
Jordan’s name appeared as Vinceroy Holder. While Jones’ name appeared as Christopher Johnson.
“The implications for Jones seemed more severe because people were aware who Vinceroy Holder was meant to be. But did not know who was Christopher Johnson.”
PNCR members are concerned that “this behavior does not help our public image. PPP likes to accuse us about rigging and rigging. Now it appears as if not even our in-house elections can be above board.”
