Star sprinters, Emanuel Archibald and Aliyah Abrams are headed back to the Olympic Games.

This is according to Chef de Mission of Guyana’s contingent for the Games, Garfield Wiltshire.

Wiltshire told Guyana Standard today that the pair punched their tickets to Paris, France where they will match strides with the world’s fastest athletes.

While Abrams, 27,  will compete in the women’s 400m event, Archibald will contest the marquee men’s 100m event.

Despite not achieving the qualifying standard (10.00s) for the blue riband event, the 29 year-old Archibald along with Abrams clinched berths by being in the quota of athletes needed (56) to compete in their respective events.

It is reminiscent of how Archibald also qualified for the last edition of the Games in Tokyo, Japan.

“Emanuel and Aliyah qualified for the Olympics based on the quota that was required for their respective events” said Wiltshire.

Archibald who broke the national record last month on home soil with a 10.09s outing, is peaking at the right time and will look to become the first Guyanese to run “sub-10” when he competes amongst the world’s best in the French capital.

The Games of the XXXIII Olympiad officially branded as Paris 2024, is scheduled to take place from 26 July (the date of the opening ceremony) to 11 August 2024 in France, with some competitions starting on 24 July. Paris is the main host city, with events held at 16 other cities spread across Metropolitan France.
