Alisha Scheller of Success Elementary has emerged as the top performer in the 2024 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA). With a score of 503.34 marks, Scheller has secured her place at Queen’s College, the premier secondary school in Guyana.

The 2024 NGSA, taken by 15,283 students in May, has shown significant improvements across key subjects: Mathematics, Social Studies, and English.

Kaiya Daniels of Green Acres Primary claimed the second position with a score of 503.27 marks, while Lucas Spooner of Mae’s Under 12 Primary secured third place with 502.44 marks. Skyler Ghopal, also from Mae’s Under 12 Primary, achieved fourth place with 502.38 marks.

Khayleigh Ramautar from Academy of Excellence and Jayin Kissoon from Marian Academy tied for fifth place, each scoring 502.33 marks. All top achievers have earned spots at Queen’s College.

At the announcement ceremony, Minister of Education Priya Manickchand expressed her satisfaction with the results.
She remarked, “I was very pleased to see that we are finally appear to be and fingers are crossed, climbing out of the COVID-19 hardship that we had that really hit us in the education sector very, very hard as it did countries around the world and we’re finally seeing results that show that we have taken some good sound decisions.”

The minister expressed her satisfaction with this year’s results, highlighting the positive impact of the Government of Guyana’s investments in education. She noted that initiatives such as providing textbooks, breakfast programmes, more trained teachers, and resources for distance learning like the Learning Channel, EdYou.FM, worksheets, websites, and the ‘Quiz Me’ platform are yielding significant benefits.

The top performers from various regions were also announced:
– Region One: Zephon Sobers of Mabaruma Primary
– Region Two: Roshinie Deonarine of Huist Dieren Primary
– Region Three: Khayleigh Ramautar
– Region Four: Alisha Scheller
– Region Five: Anusha Brijlall of Woodley Primary
– Region Six: Khadeja Ramsammy of Cumberland Primary
– Region Seven: Jaden Thornhill of Two Miles Primary
– Region Eight: Dena Pablo of Kopinang Primary
– Region Nine: Liam Chase of Arapaima Primary
– Region Ten: Tavion Hunte of Watooka Day Primary
– Georgetown: Kaiya Daniels

The cutoff scores for admission to the top six secondary schools were revealed as follows: Queen’s College (495.45), The Bishops’ High School (492.62), St. Stanislaus College (490.49), St. Rose’s High (487.44), St. Joseph High (484.5), and President’s College (480.12).
