The parent of a child who recently wrote the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) is up in arms over discrepancies between the slip issued by the school and the results accessed via the online portal. The parent took to Facebook to express her frustration, mere hours after results were announced.

“Good night, guys…. Now this is my daughter’s original results can u plz add this and tell me how this could be fair… That total is wrong… I got 503.78 when I added it…. It’s not fair at all,” the woman wrote and shared the slip.

Upon closer examination, it was revealed that the marks obtained by the child for Social Studies (SS) varied by a difference of 10. The slip recorded the SS marks as 129.6, while the portal showed 119.2.

The Guyana Standard understands that principals and Headteachers were asked to stop issuing slips.

“The Exams Department will be grateful if u [sic] can pull back all slips from parents that were distributed already. The reason being that you have to resubmit all in order for the new ones to be issued. Sorry for the inconvenience,” the message sent to a Whatsapp group read.

Meanwhile, the Guyana Standard has reached out to the Education Ministry for answers. Efforts to contact the Education Minister, Priya Manickchand have been futile. This publication understands that Minister Manickchand and her team are conducting “Because We Care” cash grants distribution. However, a source revealed that the ministry is aware of the matter and is “looking into it”. It is still unclear how many children were affected.
