Teen track stars, Athaleyha Hinckson and Malachi Austin, both copped gold medals today in their respective races at the ongoing South American U-20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

While the pair sprinted to the top of the podium in the women’s 100m final and the men’s 400m final, fellow star athlete, Tianna Springer, finished with the bronze medal in the women’s 400m event.

Hinckson, who produced a gold medal finish at this years’ CARIFTA Games, added another top of the podium performance to her resume.

The 16 year-old pocket rocket, running out of lane four, took command of the race at the half way mark and went on to claim the marquee event in 11.76s.

Austin, 16, also a gold medalist at the CARIFTA Games this year in the quarter mile event, made light work of the field in a 47.21s showing.

Meanwhile, Springer finished the female version of the event in 55.12s behind Brazil’s Julia Robeiro (54.32s) and Colombia’s Nahomy Castro (54.87s).

Hinckson will contest the 200m final later this evening.

The three-day event which started yesterday will conclude tomorrow.
