The village of Micobie, Region Eight will benefit from the construction of the new Micobie Secondary School, a project valued at $253 million. According to the Ministry of Education, it will significantly enhance the region’s educational infrastructure and foster community growth.

Awarded to NK Engineering Services through a rigorous bidding process compliant with the Public Procurement Act, the project has received an initial mobilization fund of $76 million. The school is expected to be completed within six months, marking a swift progression from concept to reality.

The Micobie Secondary School will serve as a pivotal educational institution for approximately 150 students and local community members. The school will feature 10 classrooms and five specialized laboratories dedicated to science, IT, home economics, visual arts, and library services.

Additionally, a staff room will be available for teachers. This extensive infrastructure highlights the project’s dedication to offering a comprehensive educational experience, promoting both academic and practical skills.

During an engagement with local residents, Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, emphasized the importance of parental involvement in their children’s education. She encouraged parents to be engaged and supportive, regardless of their academic backgrounds. “You don’t have to have a PhD or a big house; you need to have interest. Many times, it’s not just parents but also grandparents who take up this role,” she said.

Minister Manickchand also urged the community to hold the contractors accountable while taking advantage of the employment opportunities that the construction would bring. “We want the contractor to give work to you and for you to benefit as much as possible. But we also want the school built to the agreed standards and on time,” she added.

The construction of Micobie Secondary School she said, aligns with broader socio-economic goals, aiming to uplift the region through improved educational facilities. Local stakeholders have shown enthusiastic support, viewing the project as a catalyst for positive change.
