Table Tennis star, Chelsea Edghill will be the female flag bearer for Guyana at today’s Olympic opening ceremony in Paris, the local Olympic Committee announced on Thursday. In the opening events, in which thousands of athletes will appear on boats as part of a procession down the River Seine through the heart of Paris, the 27-year-old Edghill will join ace sprinter, Emanuel Archibald in carrying the Golden Arrowhead.

Both Edghill and Archibald were chosen by a vote of their fellow competitors on Team Guyana. It will be the second time that Edghill will be bestowed the honour as she was also the flag bearer in Tokyo at the last Games which was staged in 2021. For Archibald, the national 100m and long jump record holder, it will be his first time bearing the flag at the prestigious event. Tomorrow’s opening ceremony is set to commence at 13:30hrs local time.

Guyana’s other representatives in France are 400m record holder, Aliyah Abrams and swimming sensations, Raekwon Noel and Aleka Persaud.
