Japanese shipbuilder, MODEC, said on Tuesday that it is searching for companies capable of providing fabric maintenance, painting, and cleaning services. Through a Request for Information (RFI), the company said contractors capable of executing the offshore maintenance tasks will work on the Errea Wittu FPSO which will be used at ExxonMobil Guyana’s fifth offshore development, Uaru.

The scope of services outlined by MODEC encompasses a wide range of essential maintenance activities. Contractors are expected to handle surface preparation and painting, insulation and cladding removal and application, and engineered temporary repairs. Additional tasks include the internal lining of equipment, surface preparation, the application of passive fireproofing, and the cleaning and de-mucking of tanks and vessels.

Specifically, the maintenance work is to be conducted in various challenging environments. These include operations requiring rope access, work in confined spaces, overside and overboard tasks, scaffold-based operations, and on-deck activities.

Potential contractors must meet stringent certification requirements to be considered. Essential certifications include IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) for both the company and its personnel, NACE CIP (Coating Inspector Program) Certification, and valid rope access materials certification. MODEC also welcomes additional certifications such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO/INMETRO 17020, which will be considered during the technical evaluation.

MODEC also underscored its commitment to maintaining high standards of operation and safety for its FPSO units, especially by seeking experienced contractors with specialized certifications, ensuring that the maintenance work on the FPSO Errea Wittu meets rigorous industry standards.

The Uaru project, has a valuation of US$12.7 billion, and represents a significant investment in Guyana’s oil and gas sector. Central to the project’s success will is the Errea Wittu FPSO, boasting a peak production capacity of 250,000 barrels of oil per day.

Moreover, several contracts have already been awarded under the Uaru project umbrella. Notable among these are TechnipFMC’s securing of subsea production systems supply, while MODEC and Saipem have been entrusted with providing the FPSO vessel and executing subsea installations, respectively.
