“It’s time to show the world my talents”. So said star sprinter, Emanuel Archibald ahead of lining up for his Olympic 100m event tomorrow in Paris, France.
The national record holder will get into the blocks around noon (local time) as he competes in the exhilarating heats of the marquee event of the Games.
His aim in Paris? To become the first man in Guyana’s history to run under 10 seconds and clinch a berth in the finals among the fastest men on the planet.
Archibald who clocked 10.09s to erase the previous national record on June 15, says he is ready to execute with pride and passion, but more importantly, with hopes that the lifetime of hard work will bear fruit on the sport’s highest stage.
“My time is now” said the two-time Olympian who turns 30 next month. “The goal is always to make the finals and give myself a chance to medal.”
Up against the world’s best, Archibald who is a native of the Mining Town of Linden, stated that the highest calibre of competition will bring out the best in him on the track at the Stade de France in the French capital.
The Jamaica-based athlete is especially enthusiastic as he seeks to create history by securing Guyana’s first ever track and field medal at the Olympic Games. This country’s lone medal to date was earned by boxer, Mike Parris at the 1980 Games in Moscow, Russia.
