The University of Guyana is gearing up to welcome over 11,000 students for the 2024/2025 academic year with a series of orientation events on Friday, August 30th.
The institution said this year’s activities promise to infuse new dynamism and innovation into the traditional formal opening, setting an exciting tone for the academic year ahead.
Starting today, August 26th, faculties and units across the university will begin their orientation sessions, providing new and returning students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with their respective faculties and engage with faculty members. These sessions are designed to help students transition smoothly into university life.
The centerpiece of the week’s events will be held at the new Multipurpose Auditorium at the Turkeyen Campus, a generous gift to the University of Guyana. The formal opening and faculty meet-and-greet will run from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, offering students, faculty, and staff a central hub for interaction and celebration.
Official activities on Friday will commence at 12:00 Noon with an open campus event. This will provide students the chance to meet faculty, staff, and peers, explore the campus, join student clubs and societies, and participate in various special activities, all within a festive and welcoming atmosphere.
At 2:00 PM, the Ceremonial Opening will take place in the Multipurpose Auditorium, featuring speeches from key university officials, including Registrar Dr. Nigel Gravesande, Acting Deputy Registrar Dr. Daniella King, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Engagement Prof. Emanuel Cummings, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Paloma Mohamed Martin.
