The Ministry of Education is taking notable steps to improve the quality of education for learners with special education needs and disabilities (SEND) by partnering with Amanah Academy. This collaboration focuses on providing specialized training for teachers, particularly those pursuing an associate degree in disability studies.
The training programme includes both theoretical instruction and practical coaching. This week, teachers will learn about the scope of Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) and the role of the Behaviour Intervention Plan (BIP), linking these concepts to Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), a framework used to address challenging behaviours. By understanding and implementing these strategies, teachers will be better equipped to support students with behavioural challenges in the classroom.
The training aligns with the teachers’ recent coursework, focusing on autism and intellectual abilities, and aims to provide a deeper understanding of managing behavioural issues effectively. The underlying principle is that reducing challenging behaviours can lead to increased academic achievement, benefiting both teachers and students.
