The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) said on Friday, if it is victorious at the 2025 General and Regional Election, it will construct a road linking New Amsterdam in Region Six and the mining town of Linden in Region 10.
The plan is aired a day after the Guyana Government commissioned at $15.1B highway linking Schoonard on the western bank of the Demerara River to Crane on the coast. The project is slated to alleviate the heavy traffic along the west bank public road.
The PNCR prior to its announcement has been severely critical of the government’s plus-sized infrastructural agenda, calling for a more balanced approach that will see more economic benefits going toward the population to offset the high cost of living brought on by external situations like war and supply chain interruptions.
The PNCR said that while its infrastructure development plan is “wide-ranging” it will build an Inter-town Connection Road Network and a Coast to Hinterland Road network.
“Our inter-town road network, what First-World countries referred to as inter-city highways, will see the construction of paved roads linking Linden and New Amsterdam, Linden and Lethem, Linden and Mahdia, and Mahdia and Bartica as notable examples.
“There is presently no road link between New Amsterdam and Linden, although these two major towns are roughly 55 miles apart and serve vast catchment areas. We will build a New Amsterdam -Linden highway,” the party declared.
