The Ministry of Public Works has amended its tender document for the pre-qualification of contractors to design, build, and finance a Cultural Market at Palmyra, Berbice, Region Six.

According to the updated advertisement published by the Department of Public Information (DPI), the bid opening will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 09:00 hours at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) Office in Georgetown. Interested contractors can obtain additional details and inspect or purchase a full set of pre-qualification documents at the Ministry of Public Works’ Accounts Department.

Notably, contractors seeking pre-qualification must meet specific requirements, including presenting letters of intent to finance from reputable institutions and demonstrating previous experience in managing design/build projects of similar scale.

According to DPI, President Irfaan Ali had announced the creation of a national cultural market in Palmyra, to serve as a hub for education and talent showcasing, while providing a safe, family-friendly environment. The initiative was revealed during Emancipation Day celebrations.

“As we build the new stadium, and as we build facilities around the stadium, and as we build hotels, an important part of why people will come to Region Six is to be part of this national cultural market,” Ali said. The market will feature various aspects of Guyanese culture, including food, art, music, and dance, while also recognizing the historical significance of emancipation.

“This will be a symbol of the importance of culture in bridging gaps and bringing people together. The importance of culture in economic and social revolution. The importance of culture in developing a healthy lifestyle… [and] the importance of culture in celebrating the unity of our people and our country,” Ali underscored.

Notably, it was stated that the bidding process will follow the guidelines set out in the Procurement Act of 2003.
