The next major step for the Home Affairs Ministry will be a full-scale automation of services across its agencies, aiming to increase efficiency and oversight. This was announced moments ago by the Vice-President, Bharrat Jagdeo.
The key services targeted include:
- General Register Office (GRO): Birth, death, and marriage registrations will become fully automated, streamlining access and record management.
Guyana Police Force (GPF): Case management, firearm license records, and tint permits will transition to automated, easily accessible systems. “Sometimes records are missing, making it challenging,” the VP noted.
- Guyana Prison Service: New databases will monitor remand counts, track movement, and integrate biometrics, allowing for easier tracking of individuals across the country.
Modules will begin roll out by August next year. Surveillance has also expanded, with over 600 cameras installed across Regions 3, 4, and 6. Currently, personnel monitor these feeds, ensuring any transgressions are swiftly identified, Jagdeo said.
