The VHE Consortium that was contracted by the Guyana government to audit ExxonMobil and partners’ Stabroek Block expenses, came forward to address certain inaccuracies noted in a recent Stabroek News article.

The publication is titled “Auditor Contracted for Third ExxonMobil Audit has Licence Suspended”. According to VHE, the article incorrectly stated that Azzar Hannif of Eclisar Financial and Professional Services (Eclisar) is involved in the third ExxonMobil cost recovery audit.

In a statement, VHE Team Lead Floyd Haynes clarified, “Due to scheduling conflicts, Mr. Azzar Hannif of Eclisar Financial and Professional Services (Eclisar) has opted not to have his firm participate in the third Cost Recovery Audit.” Haynes explained that this decision was made before VHE submitted its proposal, adding, “Neither Mr. Hannif nor Eclisar are part of the third ExxonMobil audit that was awarded to VHE.”

The clarification highlights that Hannif’s suspension by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Guyana (ICAG), as noted in the article, has no bearing on VHE’s ongoing audit of ExxonMobil’s $7 billion cost recovery expenses for 2021–2023.

Haynes also called on Stabroek News to issue a correction, stating, “Please make sure that the necessary corrections are made.”

The VHE Consortium he said, continues to fulfill its contractual obligations, ensuring transparency and accountability in the audit process.
