Since assuming office in August 2020, the PPP/C administration has invested over $30 billion into transformative development projects in Region 10.

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, recently highlighted the investments made in the region to harness its potential during a recent Dream Realised housing drive in Linden. He noted that the investments aim to leverage Region 10 rich natural resources and strategic location to foster economic growth, enhance infrastructure, and uplift communities.

He was keen to note that the Ministry of Housing and Water has allocated more than $2.5 billion for infrastructure, housing units, and roads in areas such as Amelia’s Ward, Fitz Hope, Wisroc, and Plantation York. These developments have improved access for allottees and enabled many families to achieve homeownership.

In the past four years, $700 million has also been invested to ensure clean and safe water for 27,700 people in the region. This includes the drilling of new wells and upgrades to water treatment plants, exemplified by the newly established Bamia Well Station.

Additionally, the government has channeled over $5.1 billion into infrastructure development, encompassing hinterland road enhancements and the Miscellaneous Road Programme. These investments have upgraded roads, bridges, and transportation facilities, bolstering connectivity within Region 10 and with other regions. Minister Croal pointed out that this is a sharp increase compared to the $289 million spent on infrastructure in Region Ten under the previous administration.

Notably, the Ministry of Natural Resources, through the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), has invested $2.6 billion in Region 10 over three years, with an additional $1.1 billion allocated for 2024 projects.

Minister Croal also emphasized the government’s commitment to education and skills training to prepare the region’s youth for emerging opportunities. Partnerships with local educational institutions aim to introduce modern skills training and digital literacy programs, equipping the workforce to meet the demands of a diversified economy.

“Our plans for Region Ten are focused on creating economic growth, improving infrastructure, and uplifting the quality of life for all residents,” Minister Croal reiterated, adding that these projects reflect the government’s dedication to inclusive and sustainable development across the region.
