Police have arrested a male Venezuelan national who ‘drove off’ with a woman’s vehicle at around 19:30 hrs last evening, before crashing it at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, a short time later.
The vehicle, a black Honda Vezel valued at $4,700,000, belongs to a 39-year-old housewife from Pearl, East Bank Demerara.
The woman related that at around 19:00 hrs last evening, she parked her motor vehicle on her property (with no fence), located on the western side of Pearl public road, EBD. The vehicle was left running (engine on) while she proceeded into the house to collect some cash. Whilst inside the house, the woman said she observed an identifiable male getting behind the steering wheel, after which he drove off heading south on the public road.
At about 19:45 hrs last night, the victim received a call from a friend who informed her that her car was involved in an accident at Soesdyke. The woman proceeded to the mentioned location and discovered her vehicle, with the perpetrator sitting in the driver’s seat. The suspect appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
The suspect was arrested and placed in police custody as investigations continue.
