Teenage years often mark the exploration of varying passions; but for 15-year-old Bipasha Budhu, this period has been a bedrock for the strengthening of her entrepreneurial skills as she pursues the management of a small business.
A Grade 10 student at the Bishops’ High School in the Technical Field, Bipasha has turned her love for creativity into Rhea’s Petal Creations, a unique floral business specializing in handcrafted rose bouquets made from ribbons.
Bipasha’s entrepreneurial journey began just seven months ago, inspired by both her social media feed and a school fundraiser. “Honestly, seeing many creative florists on social media really inspired me along with a fundraiser for our school project. My parents advised me to just go for it and see where it goes,” she shared during an interview with Guyana Standard.
With the support of her family, Bipasha embarked on her petal creation business venture. That leap of faith has blossomed into a source of pride and accomplishment for her.
One of her most memorable moments came during the recently held GuyExpo, where she had the honour of crafting a bouquet for First Lady Arya Ali. Reflecting on the experience, she said it was a defining moment that showcased her skills and the potential of her growing business at one of Guyana’s premiere business expos.
Diving into her handywork, Bipasha shared that creating her signature rose bouquets is no simple task. “There are many ways to do what I do, but my process begins by cutting all my ribbon, then folding them into the petals, then putting them together to make the flower, then from there, I put all the roses together and then wrap it and add my decorations to it. It takes time and patience, both of which I’m great at,” she explained.
Bipasha’s rose bouquets are indeed a feast for the eyes. The delicate folds of ribbons, arranged to resemble life-like roses, are both elegant and vibrant. She combines these with intricate decorations such as golden butterflies, plush bows, and thoughtful embellishments that make each bouquet a statement piece. Her creations, like a recent birthday-themed bouquet adorned with pink and cream roses and a cheerful “Happy Birthday” banner, radiate charm and sophistication. They perfectly capture her artistic flair and attention to detail, making her work stand out.
With the Christmas season approaching, Bipasha’s creativity is in overdrive. Customers can look forward to festive bouquets featuring “different wrapping styles, more details, different plushies, and flower combinations!” she said excitedly. These holiday-themed creations could be a unique gift idea for a loved one during the holiday season.
Diving into other aspects of her life, Bipasha shared that balancing school and business is a challenge that she embraces with determination. “Managing my studies and my own business isn’t for the weak, but with a determined mind, success will follow,” she admitted. Late nights and small sacrifices are a part of her routine, but the rewards make it worthwhile. “It all becomes worth it when I see the look on my client’s face when they see their imagination come to life,” Bipasha said.
Looking to the future, Bipasha envisions her business growing beyond her local community. She said, “I’d like my business to become a country-wide platform that inspires people to follow their dreams and aspirations and to always dream big.”
