The Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo has extended the deadline for its inaugural essay competition to January 15, 2025. This move provides an additional opportunity for secondary school students from Regions Three, Five, and Six, as well as those in more remote areas, to contribute their insights and be part of a national dialogue on sustainable energy.
The extension comes after receiving over 150 submissions, further emphasizing the event’s focus on diverse perspectives. Anthony Whyte, Chairman of the Guyana Energy Conference, also highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, “Guyana’s youths are among some of the brightest minds in the world. With this extension, we hope to attract more of our students to engage in a spirited contest of creative and innovative thinking.”
He encouraged students to seize this opportunity, suggesting that their participation could enrich national discourse and reflect their roles as active contributors to the nation’s future development. The essay competition offers a lucrative US$10,000 scholarship, courtesy of the Chairman, which can be utilized in any field of study.
In partnership with the initiative, One Communications, a key player in the telecommunications sector, is offering additional incentives, including a US$1,000 cash award for first place winners across all categories. Second and third place winners will also receive rewards, including cash prizes and electronic devices, making the contest a highly attractive venture for student participants.
Winners will be celebrated on February 18, 2025, during the opening day of the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo, with One Communications set to present the awards in collaboration with the Secretariat.
