A High Court Judge has ordered Magistrate Fabayo Azore to hold off on sentencing Sergeant Dion Bascom, who was found guilty of committing cyber-related crimes against two cops, Mitchell Caesar and Kester Cosbert.

Bascom was found guilty on January 17, 2025 at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

The Judge’s order came as a result of Bascom applying to overturn Magistrate Azore’s ruling.

Bascom’s primary argument through his attorney was that the charges against him were so poorly formulated and therefore CD null and void.

The matter was heard at 11:00 AM on February 5, 2025, before High Court Justice Fidela Corbin. Both sides presented pleadings and oral submissions—one on behalf of the Trial Magistrate and the other on behalf of Bascom. The Magistrate’s attorneys conceded that the charges against Bascom contained legal deficiencies.

In response, the Judge requested written submissions from both parties and ordered a stay of proceedings at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court. This ruling effectively prevented the Magistrate from imposing sentences on Bascom, which had been scheduled for February 7, 2025. If the High Court ultimately quashes the convictions, the cases against Bascom will be effectively concluded.

The charges stem from comments Bascom allegedly made regarding the gunning down of Ricardo Fagundes, also known as “Paper Shorts” outside Palm Court back in 2021.
