The Alliance for Change (AFC) on Thursday signaled its intent to contest the 2025 General and Regional Elections independently, citing the failure to reach a “mutually beneficial” agreement with longtime coalition partner, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).
At a press conference on Thursday, AFC Executive Member David Patterson confirmed that despite weeks of negotiations, the parties have been unable to finalize a mutually beneficial coalition agreement.
“Regrettably we have, despite the best efforts of our negotiation team, been unable to arrive at a mutually beneficial arrangement with APNU,” Patterson told reporters. As such he noted that the AFC has communicated to APNU that it will proceed alone, underscoring that time is of the essence.
When asked directly if the party would go it alone, Patterson said, “We have indicated that we, regrettably, have not been able to meet an agreement and I have indicated that we will commence our elections 2025 campaign as AFC.”
Notably, Patterson said that the AFC remains open to future collaboration with APNU and other political entities.
Further, he added that while both parties explored data-driven options, including polling and focus groups to guide decisions such as the selection of a presidential candidate, several constraints hindered any concrete outcomes.
“The negotiations from both sides were unable to meet a mutually acceptable agreement…it’s in the best interest for us to proceed to full elections preparations…Unfortunately, time has progressed onwards, so we do consider we are out of time,” Patterson explained.
