President Dr. Irfaan Ali has condemned the fiery protests across the country, citing the involvement of a “selfish” few in fueling these demonstrations. He noted that those persons captured on camera damaging public and private properties will face the full extent of the law.

He made this statement during a press conference at State House while villages around the country are witnessing protests.

Earlier this evening, protesters burnt debris at Agricola, East Bank Demerara; blocked roads at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara; Bagotville, West Bank Demerara; Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara; and at least one village in East Berbice.

Reports of more areas are still emerging. In the interim, the president has called on citizens to desist burning roadways, looting supermarkets and restaurants, torching cars and throwing harsh substances on children and adults.
