A 24-year-old woman was killed this morning in a motorcycle accident at Mahdia, Region Eight. The accident happened around 06:00 hrs. The deceased has been identified as Abidacy Klass of Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown. She died on the spot.
The motorcyclist, 26-year-old Osafa Bess, of 111 Miles, Mahdia is currently receiving treatment at the Mahdia hospital. He sustained injuries to the head, feet, and hands.
According to information received, the deceased and Bess were proceeding along the Potaro Road on a motorcycle when the cyclist lost control of the bike due to a pothole. This caused both persons to be thrown off the bike and onto the roadway. The Guyana Standard has been informed that Klass died at the scene. Bess was picked up from the roadway by public-spirited persons and taken to the hospital where he is said to have been in and out of consciousness.
The police said that at the time of the accident, they had received reports of the motorcyclist speeding.
Traffic ranks are probing the accident.
