A 37-year-old Pomeroon, Essequibo resident has confessed to stabbing his drinking buddy more than 10 times on Thursday at Takutu Landing, Mazaruni River.
The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Eric Nurse of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD). He died on the spot.
According to the police, the two men were imbibing on Wednesday night after which they both went their separate ways.
However, around 01:30 hrs on Thursday, a female worker at the camp went to her sleeping quarter and was surprised to see the suspect there. The woman reportedly raised an alarm after the man attempted to force himself on her.
This news agency was told that the victim ran to the woman’s aid and got involved in an argument with the suspect. It escalated into a fight and the suspect then pulled a knife and stabbed the victim to death.
The knife was found next to the body and the suspect was arrested not too far from the scene.
He is expected to make his first court appearance soon.
