Information reaching Guyana Standard indicates that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Shalimar Ali-Hack, is among the first few people to have entered into settlement agreements with the State Assets Recovery Agency (SARA).
This media house understands that the DPP’s settlement has to do with the Pradoville case which is regarded as one of the more “fraudulent arrangements” where state assets in the form of prime house lots were distributed to persons at a price way below market value.
Ali-Hack was one of the persons who bought a plot of land at an area in Ogle referred to as Pradoville.
Many officials of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic government secured plots of land in the area and former Minister of Housing Irfaan Ali is said to have orchestrated the distributions.
Guyana Standard understands that the DPP settled her matter since last year.
One source said, “I was made to understand that she [Ali-Hack] was one of the first persons banging on SARA’s door, wanting to settle. I have no idea why the boys over at SARA are keeping this under wraps but maybe they have a good reason.”
The source added, “they are keeping quiet; while our goodly opposition leader [Bharrat Jagdeo] makes weekly statements that the old boys club is just wasting tax dollars, the fact that they [SARA] are not saying anything in response means that they probably have something big heading his way.”
Guyana Standard understands that the DPP is not the only person to have settled her case. A source said that others, “including a former government minister, have settled too. But as I told you, they are tightlipped about it so I do not know the name of the former minister. I am sure you can guess who that might be.”
This media house made several attempts to contact SARA officials but those efforts were futile.
According to reports, Ali-Hack and her husband, Moeen ul Hack, a top figure in the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), paid $1,488,744 for a piece of land.
Besides Ali-Hack, other persons implicated include former President and current Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo; former Public Service Minister, Jennifer Westford; former Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee; former Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand; former Army Chief, Admiral Gary Best; former Head of the Caribbean Development Bank, Compton Bourne; former GWI head, Shaik Baksh; and former Chief Executive Officer of GuySuCo, Dr. Rajendra Singh.
