Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Issacs-Marcus today released a businessman on $40,000 bail on charges of assault of a peace officer and resisting arrest.
Thirty-three-year-old Joseph MacAlmon of Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara was slapped with six charges.
The first two charges stated that on May 31 at Georgetown, he resisted police constables Jason Price and Daniel Collins while they were acting in the execution of their duties.
It was further alleged that on the same day and at the same location, MacAlmon unlawfully assaulted Police Constables Daniel Collins and Jason Price who were acting in the execution of his duties. He received a charge for each of the officers he allegedly assaulted.
His next charge stated that on May 31 at North Road, he called Gavin Brown a name other than his own, with the intent to annoy him.
The last charge stated that on May 31 at North Road, he behaved in a disorderly manner.
MacAlmon, who is the proprietor of Hair Tech International, pleaded not guilty to all the charges after they were read to him by the magistrate and was released on a total of $40,000 bail.
According to information, on the day in question, MacAlmon got into an argument with Brown over parking and the police were summoned. While the police officers were attempting to arrest him, he allegedly resisted. He then ran on the road and started to behave in a disorderly manner.
The magistrate instructed the father of three to make his next court appearance on June 24.
