The matter involving businessman Imran Khan, who is accused of attempting to kill a disabled man known popularly as “Short Boss”, continued this morning in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts when the victim took to the stand to testify.
This morning when the matter was called in the courtroom of Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, Romario Baljeet called “ Short Boss” testified in the matter. Baljeet, upon entering the witness box, was unable to speak clearly. Special Prosecutor Latchmie Rahamat told the court he had suffered from a seizure three days ago.
Baljeet in his testimony spoke extensively about his injuries and his numerous trips to the Woodlands Hospital. Upon the conclusion of his testimony, the magistrate adjourned the matter to June 27 for continuation.
Khan, 31, of Austin Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on October 28, 2018 at Main Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Romario Baljeet, with the intent to murder him.
It was reported that on October 28, 2018 at 02:00 hrs, Baljeet and some friends were leaving the Palm Court night club when they were confronted by Khan who was standing at the gateway.
As a result, Baljeet walked between Khan and his friends. This seemingly annoyed Khan who in turn dealt Baljeet several punches to his head and face, causing him to fall to the ground.
It was while Baljeet was on the ground that Khan took a glass bottle and slashed him on his right side face.
Khan then continued to kick and cuff the victim while he was laying on the ground.
Baljeet, who was unconscious, was then picked up and rushed to a private institution where he underwent surgery.
