Naomi Adams, one of the five persons accused of murdering 75-year-old Professor Pairadeau Mars, today admitted to killing the man when she opted to plead to the lesser count of manslaughter.

Adams, now 18, appeared today before Justice Navindra Singh of the Georgetown High Court where she confessed that on May 12, 2016 in the county of Demerara, she unlawfully killed Pairadeau ‘Perry’ Mars during the course or furtherance of a robbery. Justice Singh accepted her plea and ordered that a probation report be prepared for Adams considering that she was only 15-years-old when she committed the crime.

The confessed killer returns to court on Monday, June 24, 2019 for sentencing.

State Counsel Teriq Mohamed, Tuanna Hardy, and Abigail Gibbs appeared for the Prosecution. According to Hardy, Adams and others went into Mars’ home at Lot 395 Bissessar Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown and held him down while others choked him to death.

The prosecutor added that Mars’ home was robbed and Adams was arrested and was found in possession of his cell phone. The prosecutor also added that the teenager confessed to the crime.

Professor Mars studied History at the University of Guyana. He had specialised in African Studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, USA.

In the meantime, Adams’s co-accused are scheduled to go on trial for the murder of Mars. One of them has asked for assistance with retaining a State assigned lawyer.
