People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Member of Parliament Juan Edghill today penned a letter to the Commissioner of Police, asking the Guyana Police Force to launch a “thorough investigation” into the “acquisition and registration” of two vehicles.
The vehicles in question are two land cruisers that now carry the number plates PXX 6337 and PXX 6338.
Edghill told the top cop that information suggests that the two vehicles, at the time of entry into Guyana, bore licence plates purported to be of Venezuelan origin. He said that it is further alleged that the said two vehicles were intercepted and seized by Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) officials at Lethem, Region Nine in May 2019.
Edghill told the top cop too that the said two vehicles “are now in possession of a Mr Carlton Beckles and the registrations have been backdated to March 14, 2019, several months before the said vehicles were seized.”
The parliamentarian further stated, “This request [to the Commissioner of Police] is to ensure that those responsible for these actions face the full force of the law and the nation is not cheated of its rightful revenue. This matter has been in the public domain for quite some time and as a responsible citizen and a representative of the people, I now formally bring this matter to your attention for investigation.”
