A student of the University of Guyana was today released on $20,000 bail after being slapped with a dangerous driving charge.
Dwayne Nurse, 32, of 693 Seventh Street, Paradise, East Coast, Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on December 25, 2018 at Regent Road, he drove motor car PWW 687 in a manner dangerous to the public.
Nurse, who is studying accountancy at the tertiary level, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore stated that on the day in question, Nurse was proceeding west along Regent Road when he allegedly swerved from potholes and ended up on the southern side of the road causing him to crash into a motorcyclist.
The court heard the motorcyclist was flung onto the road surface, causing him to receive injuries about his body. He was then picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he underwent surgery.
The matter was then reported, an investigation was carried out, hence the present charge. With no objections being raised by the prosecutor, the magistrate released Nurse on $20,000 bail. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on July 12.
