The People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) is making swift moves to secure the support of the international community for early General and Regional Elections, in keeping with this morning’s Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) ruling that the December 21, 2018 No-Confidence Motion was properly passed.
United States Ambassador to Guyana Sarah-Ann Lynch was seen earlier today entering the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo.
Guyana Standard understands that PPP has already reached out to the High Commissioners of Canada and the United Kingdom. However, no word has been given on whether meetings have been secured with the heads of mission for those two countries.
At a press conference he held earlier today, even before the meeting with the Ambassador, Jagdeo told the media, “We hope the international community will take a strong position on this matter.”
He claimed that many envoys were told by local counterparts that they should refrain from taking strong positions on matters relating to the No-Confidence Motion because the validity of the motion was the subject of a court matter.
“Well, the matter is now resolved definitively. We expect stronger positions from the international community to push for elections to be held.”
