A man who confessed to mercilessly stabbing his 39-year-old wife to death was further remanded to prison yesterday. The court now awaits the findings of a probation report which will be presented on Thursday, July 18, 2019, before it hands down a sentence.
Though initially charged with the murder of Indranie Sugrim, Seon Singh pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter when he was brought before Justice James Bovell-Drakes at the Demerara High Court.
Singh admitted to killing the woman on November 25, 2012. Reports are that the couple was involved in a heated argument during which Singh armed himself with a knife and stabbed his wife to death. The killing occurred at their 503 Block ‘Y’ Cummings Lodge, Greater Georgetown home. He later escaped but was arrested shortly after.
It was reported that they shared an abusive five-year relationship. Sugrim was a mother of three. Singh’s lawyer was Maxwell McKay. Lawyers Sarah Martin and Teriq Mohamed appeared for the prosecution.
