Kerry Cromwell, 26, the man who was found guilty by a jury for murdering Linden bus driver Elvin Lorrimer, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
He only becomes eligible for parole after serving 50 years in prison.
The sentence was handed down this morning by Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court in Demerara where Cromwell had been on trial.
According to reports, Cromwell shot and killed 53-year-old Lorrimer of Carter Street, Kara Kara, Linden, as the now dead man stood on the Linden bus park in Georgetown on May 21, 2016.
Prosecutors Abigail Gibbs, Tuanna Hardy, and Teriq Mohamed appeared for the State. Cromwell was represented by attorney-at-law Stanley Moore.
According to reports, Cromwell was one of the prisoners who broke out of the Lusignan Prison in July 2017. Before then, he was charged for possession of narcotics and was sentenced to serve community service. He was also slapped with several armed robbery charges.
Cromwell is a father of two and, before his incarceration, he had lived at Albouystown, Georgetown.
