Joel Bond, the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) driver who is said to have been involved in a deadly crash almost two weeks ago on the Rupert Craig Highway, was today charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Bond appeared before Her Worship Alisha George at Court Two of the Sparendaam Magistrates‘ Court, the police said in a statement. He pleaded not guilty and was placed on $100,000 bail. He will return to court on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
The deceased was previously identified as Mitford Cambridge of Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD). He died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on the morning of June 12.
According to reports, on June 11, 2019, a Toyota Fortuner bearing registration number PPP 8909, crashed into three parked cars, injuring the driver of one of the vehicles who was sitting inside. The vehicle is said to have been assigned to Mayor of Georgetown, Ubraj Narine, who was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
