A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed, and the pillion rider injured, after they reportedly crashed into a car on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown in the vicinity of the Ministry of Agriculture this morning.
The accident happened around 00:30 hrs.
The deceased has been identified as Stephen Beckles of Guyhoc Park, Georgetown. He died at the scene of the accident. The pillion rider is 22-year-old Kevin Andy of Perry Street, Tucville, Georgetown.
Andy, who is said to be in a stable condition, is currently receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The Guyana Standard has been informed that Beckles was riding a motorcycle, CH 9859 when he reportedly lost control and crashed into the car. The cyclist was said to be speeding on the road this morning.
According to information received, the deceased was heading south on Vlissengen Road while the car was proceeding in the opposite direction. However, for some strange reason, Beckles ended up in the same direction of the car which resulted in a collision.
The deceased and pillion rider were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, the driver of the car is in police custody after it was found that he was over the prescribed limit of alcohol.
