Three weeks after firing its 21-year-old Town Clerk Hakeem Wong, the Mahdia Town Council is on the hunt for a new replacement.

Wong’s services were terminated with immediate effect on June 27 after the council, at a meeting held on May 7, recommended the move by way of a majority vote.

The council, by way of a letter, told Wong that it had lost confidence in his ability to continue to execute the functions of the Town Clerk of the Mahdia Town Council.

Wong has since denied any wrongdoing and has promised to have the decision of the council overturned. He maintains that he was wrongfully dismissed and told the media earlier this month that he was going to lawyer up and take on the council.

The council, on the other hand, has been publishing notices in the local print media, seeking Wong’s replacement.

According to the notice, the council is looking for suitably qualified applicants to fill the position.

“The preferred candidate must have a Degree in Public Management or related field plus three years relevant managerial work experience, or a Diploma in Public Management, or a related discipline with five years managerial experience,” the notice stated.
