An 18-year-old was today sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for stealing cash from a bus driver.

Daniel Wilson of 1397 Fourth Bridge, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Wilson pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge which stated that on July 10, 2019, at Lombard Street, Georgetown, he stole $24,620, which was the property of Oslyn Roberts.

Wilson told the court that on the day in question, he was a passenger in the victim’s minibus. He added, “When I reach down to town, I saw the money in the bus door so I collect it. When I attempted to run some of the money fell and the guy saw me so I give him back the money but he cuff me up in my face.”

Facts Presented by Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummell stated that on the day in question, the victim parked his bus and was conversing with someone when Wilson pushed his hands through the window and removed the money. He attempted to make good his escape but he was apprehended by police on mobile patrol. He was then arrested and taken into custody and charged. Magistrate McGusty, after listening to the facts, sentenced Wilson to six months behind bars.
