Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus today committed a minibus conductor to stand trial in the High Court for the rape of a 15-year-old girl.
Twenty-four-year-old Dorian Fredericks, of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, will go on trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the matter was held at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Today when the matter was called, the magistrate ruled that, at the conclusion of the PI, she found sufficient evidence against Fredericks. Hence, he will have to face a judge and jury at the High Court.
Fredericks was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between October 1, 2016 and October 31, 2016 at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown he engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16.
According to information, the accused, sometime during the mentioned period, slapped the teen in the face, pushed her onto a bed, and had sex with her.
The matter was then reported and Fredericks was arrested and charged with the offence.
