A Stabroek Market vendor was today remanded to prison for attempting to kill his girlfriend.
Thirty-one-year-old Trayon Parks of 107 Eccles, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on July 10, 2019, at Water Street, Bagostown, East Bank Demerara, with intent to commit murder, he wounded Cresheia Nero.
Parks was represented by attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers objected to bail being granted to Parks on the grounds of the serious nature and prevalence of the offence.
The prosecutor also highlighted the penalty the charge attracts.
Facts presented by the prosecutor stated that on the day in question the two got into an argument and Parks armed himself with an object and stabbed the woman several times to her abdomen.
She was then rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where she underwent emergency surgery.
The matter was then reported, an investigation was carried out, hence Parks was arrested and charged with the offence.
The magistrate, after listening to both sides, remanded Parks to prison until August 5.
Parks was amongst three vendors charged last year for the allegedly breaking into a jewellery store and carting off with $22M worth of jewellery, diamond, and money.
That matter is currently ongoing in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
