Two teenagers and a 26-year-old man were today charged with the murder of a young fisherman whom police said was killed by the trio after a misunderstanding.
Bruce Kennedy, 19, Tavish Mangra, 19, and Richie Mangra, 26, all fishermen of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
They were not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that they murdered Alvin called Chucolo, a fisherman, on July 18, 2019, at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that on the day in question, the three men had a misunderstanding with ‘Chucolo’. The court heard the men then armed themselves with cutlasses and dealt the victim several chops about his body.
The injured man fell to the ground in an unconscious state and was picked up by public-spirited persons who rushed him to Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Chief Magistrate, after listening to the facts, remanded the men to prison until August 6 when they will appear at the Leonora Magistrate’s Courts.
