The deadline for stamping scales, weights, and measures is Monday, September 30, 2019. This is according to the Guyana Bureau of Standards (GNBS) which is tasked with ensuring accurate measurements in Guyana.
Based on information released by the agency, all vendors, shopkeepers, supermarkets operators, rice millers, manufacturers, health personnel, petroleum dealers, fabric dealers, airline and freight service providers, and other users of scales, masses, measures, and measuring rules are required to have their devices stamped for the second half of this year.
Stamping services in this regard is offered at the Bureau’s Main office located in the Sophia Exhibition Complex, the Bureau’s Sub-Regional Offices in New Amsterdam, Anna Regina, Vreed-en-Hoop, and Lethem, and at the respective Regional Democratic Council Administration officers countrywide. Stamping takes place Monday through Thursday between the hours of 08:00 and 12:00 and also between the hours of 13:00 and 16:30. On Fridays, the stamping service is available between the hours of 08:00 and 12:00 hours and also between the hours of 13:00 and 15:30.
However, the Bureau has cautioned that “devices that are unpainted, dirty or are kept in a state of disrepair will not be stamped.” In addition, it said that “scales in dual mode (that is metric and imperial) and domestic dial scales will not be stamped.” Moreover, it is only those metric devices that are approved for commercial trade will be stamped.
